If you want to lose weight, use omega oil with omega-3, not fish oil

Your body creates some 50 fatty acids as and when it needs them, both saturated and unsaturated ones. But there are two fatty acids that the body is unable to produce - alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and linoleic acid (LA). These are extracted from our food sources and Amanprana, Professor Brian Peskin and other experts have labelled them as parent essential oils. ALA is the parent essential oil of omega-3 and LA is the parent essential oil of omega-6. This means it is important that you keep your omega-3 and 6 levels topped up, which can be done by consuming extra omega oil. It is a sad fact that most people up their levels by using fish oil, but we would like to tell you why fish oil is best avoided. Did you also know that omega oil can help you lose weight?

Why is omega-3 so essential?

In a typical Western diet we tend to consume too much omega-6 and omega-9, and do not take care to get a sufficient dose of omega-3 fatty acids. There should be a balance between these various omega fatty acids - ideally between 2:1 and 4:1 (omega-3 and omega-6). In reality these proportions are closer to between 10:1 and 30:1 for most Europeans.

Aside from the fact that your body needs omega fatty acids to stay healthy, the right balance of these omegas is also beneficial in other ways. Research has shown that sufficient omega-3 and omega-6 levels can normalise your cholesterol, while they also reduce the chance of cardiovascular disease. A good balance can influence your blood pressure, stop inflammatory diseases and help your platelets. If you'd like to know more about omega 3/6/9, then read on.

Aren't omega fatty acids derived from fish oil?

A large amount of farmed fish contains the NON-essential fatty acids, EPA and DHA. While these are important, our bodies can produce them. Furthermore, these are just two of the ten fatty acids in the omega-3 family, and the essential ALA and LA as well as the other eight omega fatty acids and omega-6 and omega-9 are not derived from fish oil

It must also be added that fish today often contain heavy metals, endocrine disruptors, pesticides, antibiotics and many other poisons. What this means is that fish oil is not a healthy alternative when it comes to getting omega-3. Rather choose a plant-based variety that contains omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9, as it will give your body what it truly needs.

If you want to lose weight, then an omega oil boost with omega-3 will help

Those who make sure they get enough omega oil will lose weight faster than those on the same diet who don't take omega oil. That's because omega oil stimulates fat burning. Of course it is also important that you get enough exercise, as has been demonstrated by a major Australian study (source). That study even used unhealthy fish oil taken by people to get an omega boost.

Obese participants in the study took a daily dose of fish oil, while they were also required to exercise a little more than they usually did. There was also a control group that took pure sunflower oil instead of fish oil, one that took sunflower oil and did not exercise more and one that consumed fish oil without exercising more. The group that took fish oil and exercised more displayed notable results, losing a great deal of weight. This proves that fish oil (or rather, omega-3 fatty acids) increases the burning of body fat when combined with exercise.

Fats can help you lose weight, but choose good fats

When you consume the right fats they can encourage fat burning. This is something that has only recently been generally accepted, but fortunately an increasing number of people are becoming aware of this fact. Although you can now say goodbye to low-fat diets, you must still focus on the good fats. Which are the best fats for you?

Fats make you feel more satisfied, reducing your appetite. The 'healthy fats' are those contained in nuts, oils and seeds with a very high melting point. These include coconut oil, olive oil, walnuts, almonds, etc.

Use plant-based omega oil with omega-3 to lose weight

There are plenty of natural sources of fats that will give you omega fatty acids. Some examples are walnut oil, linseed oil, hemp oil, perilla oil, and many others. If you want to focus on food alone for your omega oil consumption, then chia seeds, algae and seaweeds, seeds and nuts, spinach, kale, endives and purslane all contain high levels. Amanprana also offers a range of omega oils: the Okinawa Omega oils.
