Green sea turtles, also known as 'soup turtles' are nowadays consuming twice as much plastic as 25 years ago. This according to a study conducted at the University of Queensland in Australia.
Already since the late 80s, researchers have been keeping track of all sorts of data on the state of (sea) turtles. Those data reveal that they are eating more plastic than ever before. Moreover, they also gobble up more plastic than any other type of waste.
The green sea turtle has the largest distribution of all species of sea turtles. It is present in just about all the 'warmer' coastal waters.
